Colorful artwork and pictures fine. The date squares inside the monthly grids are too small though. It seems they could have easily made them a bit larger. Buy from here…

Customer Review: Warning: Kylie Turns Our Students Into Libertines!
Fellow Educators,
With Ultimate Kylie, we’re dealing with a problem that makes the so called “Summer of Love” in ‘67 seem like a cakewalk. Let me explain: I work at the University of California at Davis. In April 2006 some Drama students (they’re always pushing the boundaries) got their hands on a copy of Ultimate Kylie. Before I knew it, half the campus was “turned on.” 20 year old women were running around in gold shorts that barely covered their hind-quarters. And young men watching Kylie videos on their laptops - during class - “freak danced” students and female professors. The campus was teetering on sexual anarchy. We called in the student leaders to see what the heck was going on. The head cheerleader said that “everyone” knew Ultimate Kylie was “better than Spanish Fly” to get young men “pumped up” for “sex.” Something had to be done.
The administration had a contentious meeting, and most attendees wanted to confiscate all Ultimate Kylie DVDs. (The Drama chair and some fund raisers said they wanted to *hire* Kylie, for crying out loud).
I was opposed to the ban, as I knew of Kylie’s charity work. She’s a good egg - sprightly and spry. But sometimes she’s sassy, full of life and pushing the boundaries too far. She probably just needs an authority figure to keep her in line.
I told the administration I’d come up with an acceptable compromise. After watching the DVD 11 times in 24 hours, I took it to the tech team. With my notes and guidance, the techies edited Ultimate Kylie into an acceptable form. (Two male techies were moved to another project after they “freak danced” their female co-workers and the screen). Here’s my notes:
*** Whether Kylie is unaware of her powers (videos 1-9) or flaunting her plan to seduce our young people (videos 10-31), I find myself to be titillated and aroused by her lascivious fandangos. Photoshop a nice sweater and slacks over every frame of tank tops, “mini-dresses” and “Daisy Dukes.” ***
We showed “Ultimate Kylie: New and Improved” to a student focus group. And, you guessed it folks, participants’ key words were “sexy,” “sex,” and “homina, homina, homina.” Kylie’s “mojo” came through the sweater loud and clear. She’s a feisty one!
The administration went to Plan B and offered a deal: All students who turned in their original copy of “Ultimate” would get the latest Madonna DVD *and* a $30.00 Toys R Us gift certificate. So far, two male cheerleaders have seen the light and made the trade. The rest of the students (now bolstered by the damn ACLU and some troublemakers from our sister campus Berkeley) refuse to give their copies up. Oh yeah, isn’t it GREAT to see young people stand for something. (That’s sarcasm, gang). After analyzing the original DVD like the Zapruder film, the administration believes this may be a battle that lasts beyond our lifetimes. (California has seen plenty of sex bombs come and go, but we’ve never dealt with mojo at Kylie’s level of sophistication). Shore up, folks.
On the plus side, students are wearing bright colors instead of those gray “hoodies” they liked so darn much. And the Chancellor just bought a yellow Ferrari. We can feel the bass from “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” all over the parking lot, for crying out loud. And we’re all for free speech, folks. With Ultimate Kylie, speech isn’t the problem - the lyrics are fine.
I close with a quote from Professor Worthington: “We are as Hemingway, battling the top marlin who won’t be reeled in.” Kylie will yank you and crank you! Hang on tight!
Customer Review: Ultimate Kylie.
Ultimate Kylie indeed !
You couldn’t ask for a better collection of Kylie’s videos from throughout her career.
Very entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
Great buy for any fan of Kylie. Buy from here…
The River Why, Twentieth-Anniversary Edition
August 31, 2008
Since its publication by Sierra Club Books nearly two decades ago, The River Why has become a classic, standing with Norman Maclean’s A River Runs Through It as the most-read fiction about fly-fishing of our era. Duncan’s protagonist, Gus Orviston, is an irreverent young flyfisherman–a vibrant character who makes us laugh easily and feel deeply, and who speaks with startling truth about the way we live.
Leaving behind a madcap, fishing-obsessed family, Gus embarks on an extraordinary voyage of self-discovery along his beloved Oregon rivers. What he unexpectedly finds is man’s wanton destruction of nature and a burning desire to commit himself to its preservation.
The River Why is a tale that gives a contemporary voice to the concerns and hopes of all living things on this beautiful, watery planet. It is the story of one man’s search for meaning, for love, and for a sane way to live.
Customer Review: Brilliant
The best book I have read in years. I would recommend this book to anyone that has a hard time believing in the traditional answers to the questions of life. Great!
Customer Review: After the first few chapters, throw it away…
Even though I hate fishing and have maybe done it once, the first few chapters of this book are humorous and interesting, in particular Bill Bob, Gus’ younger brother. Unfortunately, Bill Bob’s role is small to almost nonexistent as the book goes on and the author makes him say some pretty idiotic pseudo-philosophical/religious ramblings, such as a long discussion with Gus about how shadows are our guardians.
The book is largely predictable from the beginning until the end and it’s almost like a bunch of authors get together to provide the same theme. The overall structure of the book is Gus starts to question life, including death, ultimate meaning, his meaning, and other philosophy 101 questions. And, of course, Gus ends up finding his meaning in the eyes of some backwoods hippie chick and has a religious experience (if you can call it that) while walking home from a long, incredibly drawn out trip down a river following a fish in his line.
I’m sure many people will see this book as being “deep” or “an interesting discussion of blah blah blah”, but if you’ve even remotely dipped your foot in philosophy this book is hardly enlightening. I pushed through the book simply because I got past the half way point, then promptly threw it in the trash when I was done.
Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful World (Motherhood Club)
August 31, 2008
Customer Review: Raising Respectful Children
Very good reference for parenting on how to raise children in the traditional good values.
Customer Review: Good Reinforcement for Proper Parenting
There’s nothing groundbreaking in “Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful World”, but the author does an excellent job of providing encouragement & reinforcement for good parenting. Ms. Rigby understands how hard it can be for parents to say “no” to toxic pop culture, permissiveness, selfishness, greed, false praise, perfectionism, etc. She reminds us of the damage these things can inflict on our children and provides helpful suggestions for countering them.
Ms. Rigby does include a lot of references to God and the Bible, but most of them were not Christian-specific. The majority of the quotes came from the Old Testament and the ones from the New Testament dealt with Jesus’ teachings rather than his role as Savior. So I could see why a Jew like Dr. Laura would not have a big problem with this book. Buy from here…
Blood Angels

Customer Review: Rent it first.
If you can find it cheap buy it, if not rent it first. If there is one thing I do it is not to lie about movies that I leave a review for. I bought this for one reason and one reason alone Crystal Lowe. I got it cheap so I wasn’t too upset with her lack of screen time. Look it’s a cheap vampire movie with so so special effects. The girls are ok to look at and thats about it. Enjoy or not……..
Customer Review: A Misrecorded DVD Of A Fun Movie
If you have any thoughts of buying this DVD I want to give you fair warning that it is improperly recorded. In a pathetic attempt to conceal the fact that `Blood Angels’ AKA `Thralls’ never played in theaters, the picture aspect ratio is artificially widened!!! Hence, the film in letter boxed and stretched so the ratio is 125% wider than natural!!! Unless you can manually adjust the aspect ration on your TV or PC this DVD may be UNWATCHABLE.
Such a shame since `Blood Angels’ is a guilty pleasure. The plot is thin but the concept is fascinating.
Vampire Master Lorenzo Lamas holds starlet wannabes hostage in his mansion turning them into “thralls” half vampires. The girls rebel and are able to escape with the valuable Necronomicon. (So that’s what happened to the Necronomicon, it’s been in Lorenzo Lamas’ attic.) The thralls open a Hollywood nightclub where male guests get sucked in more way than one. They’re not complaining. The thralls study the Necronomicon in hope of becoming full blooded vampires.
Why it works: Anime actor Richard Ian Cox best known as playing Inuyasha totally steals the show by hamming it up as Lamas’ vampire familiar. The opening scene is worth it all. As Cox returns to the darkened mansion, he enters the attic and is blinded by white light. The entire attic is bright white including the thralls’ wedding gown clothing and Cox’s three piece suit. The thralls are chained together in the center of the room. Cox says, “Hello ladies. Miss me? I brought you dinner.” (or words to that effect) He removes a bloody rat from a brown paper bag. The thralls drool hungrily at it. “It’s fresh.” As he drops it on the floor it is still twitching. Cox looks concerned as one of the girls Roxie is absent. “Roooxiiieee?” he calls as to a kitten. He follows her chain behind a curtain and finds it attached to a severed foot.

Laura Branigan Platinum Collection
August 28, 2008
Customer Review: Best Branigan compilation from the Northern Hemisphere!!
The late Laura Branigan had a remarkably worldwide fan base, with several greatest hits albums in countries ranging from South Korea, Brazil, Japan, Germany, and 2 in South Africa (and that was before the U.S. even had one!).
This PLATINUM COLLECTION is the best new compilation of her work since her death in 2004. While there are a few tracks that are glaringly absent (e.g., “Cry Wolf”, “Hold Me”, “Forever Young”, singles from 1993’s OVER MY HEART album, etc.), it is a good selection of her work. Better yet, these tracks are remastered!
Again, this is not a perfect selection (the ones from South Africa had the best selections), this album is the best one in years, certainly better than the BEST OF BRANIGAN that was released in the U.S. in 1995.
If you must limit yourself to one Branigan album and you do not want shell out the money for the ones from South Africa, the PLATINUM COLLECTION from the U.K. is your best choice!
Customer Review: Tell Laura I Love Her
To me, no collection could ever be complete without including every track Laura ever recorded. Hit or not, that is only spectulation by our obsession with the cencors of what is hot or not. Radio does not play the whole impact of what the public really enjoys listening to. Key words, “enjoys listening to, not what we are forced to hear on radio. Laura shall live on in the musical soundtrack of our lives. Buy from here…
Destiny Fulfilled
August 28, 2008
Some thought it would never happen, but after solo successes and a three-year hiatus the ladies of Destiny’s Child have reunited for the eagerly-anticipated Destiny Fulfilled. The Houston-based trio of Kelly, Michelle and some girl named Beyonce follow up their mega successful Survivor with another album full of infectious dance grooves and melancholy tales of women done wrong. Lead single “Lose My Breath” is their first offering of the former. Backed by a kinetic marching band sample, they sing with an urgency that bolsters the Rodney Jerkins-produced track. Current single “Soldier” is more of the same. Featuring T.I. and Lil’ Wayne, the song allows the trio to sing the praises of the kind of men they like.
Despite this one-two uptempo punch, DC does do ballads. They go old-school on the moving “If.” Michelle, who has several impressive solos throughout, and Beyonce trade lines about finding and holding on to love. However, on “Bad Habit” the trio goes for the paint-by-numbers woman finding her inner-strength theme. Other highlights include the 9th Wonder and Beyonce-produced “Girl” and the midtempo gem “Free.” –Rashaun Hall
Customer Review: My favorite Destiny’s Child Album
I must confess, I was so mad at Destiny’s Child when I first purchased the album because I wanted more tracks. I have since learned to appreciate the quality of work these girls put out on this album. Their harmonies are perfect and each one has equal time on each song. They all participated in the songwriting and they are even credited as producers. The topics show a lot of growth when you compare it to Survivor. These girls are straight up women on this album, so the whole album talks about being in and out of love. My absolute faves are: Bad Habit, which was written by Solange and Kelly, Girl, Cater To You, and Love. I would have to say that Kelly shows the most growth. Her voice is purely angelic and one thing I have noticed is that Beyonce produces their vocals, and in my opinion, Kelly sounds her best when produced by Beyonce. Please get this album. That’s all I have to say.
Customer Review: Beyonce contradicts herself and Destiny’s Child is lame
Ok… Beyonce sings about being a very independent woman and being a Survivor but she’s singing about have a ghetto thug in Soldier to make her complete and that she will slave over a man in Cater 2 You? She lacks substance in her music and she’s contradicts herself. There’s a better word for this a Hypocrite. First of all, the Destiny’s Child girls are from a upper middle class neighborhood in Texas but they’re dressing up as ghetto girls in the Soldier video? And they’re singing about that they want a ghetto thug as a boyfriend. No girl wants a ghetto dude as a boyfriend. They mays sell more albums than most girls groups but TLC, the Supremes, and En Vogue and even latin freestyle girl groups from the 1980’s like the Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation, Seduction, Expose have more substance in their music and lyrics. I Know This Much Is True (Oprah’s Book Club)
August 28, 2008
“PerfectBound e-book extra: Who Is Wally Lamb? The author addresses the National Endowment for the Arts. With his stunning debut novel, She’s Come Undone, Wally Lamb won the adulation of critics and readers with his mesmerizing tale of one woman’s painful yet triumphant journey of self-discovery. Now, this brilliantly talented writer returns with I Know This Much Is True, a heartbreaking and poignant multigenerational saga of the reproductive bonds of destruction and the powerful force of forgiveness. A masterpiece that breathtakingly tells a story of alienation and connection, power and abuse, devastation and renewal–this novel is a contemporary retelling of an ancient Hindu myth. A proud king must confront his demons to achieve salvation. Change yourself, the myth instructs, and you will inhabit a renovated world. “Dominick Birdsey is an epic hero and his story is an inspiring, darkly comic talk of redemption - a late twentieth-century Les Miserables.”(Glamour) “Twice as thoughtful and twice as heart-wrenching as most published this year. An exercise in soul-baring storytelling - with the soul belonging to 20th-century American itself. It’s hard to read and to stop reading, and impossible to forget.” (USA Today) “…a fully developed and triumphantly resolved exploration of one man’s suffering and redemption.” (Publisher Weekly, starred review) “A work of astonishing craftsmanship, structural symmetry, and literary self-awareness.. Read it and weep.” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
Customer Review: Great read
This book goes over the psychological aspect of twins and makes it even more intense with one of the twins being schizophrenic. Fantastic to the final page.
Customer Review: ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS, EVER
Stepping Off the Edge: Learning & Living Spiritual Practice
One of the things I appreciate most about this book is Lamb’s ability to show the complexity and nobility of ordinary people. He doesn’t pretty up anything, showing his characters accurately and empathetically. This is a story of great length and complexity. I enjoyed every minute, as did my reading group. I’m not going to repeat things that other reviewers have said, but I will note that Lamb set his story at exactly the right time. A new generation of effective drugs to treat schizophrenia burst forth in the 1980s and 90s, with the result that a diagnosis of schizophrenia is no longer a sentence to living hell. Today, schizophrenia is a treatable disease. As the parent of a schizophrenic, I was overjoyed to see my child become indistinguishable from the normal kids around her as new drugs enabled her to recover. Had Lamb set his story a little later, he would have had a different tale. As it is, he wrote a magnificent story smacking of ancient epics. Buy from here…
