Customer Review: Very absolutely fabulous
The videos included on this tape include ‘Can you forgive her’ (the first single released from the album ‘Very’), ‘Go West’ (the remake of the Village People hit), ‘I wouldn’t normally do this kind of thing’, ‘Liberation’, ‘Yesterday, when I was mad’, ‘Absolutely fabulous’ (done in honour of the British comedy of the same name), and a reprise of ‘Go West’.
Perhaps the best videos here are ‘Go West’ and ‘Absolutely fabulous’. The song ‘Go West’ is a triumphalist song, not just toward the Village People, California-directed image, but also, coming at the end of the Cold War, there are images of the Eastern European nations looking westward for inspiration and support. The song ‘Absolutely fabulous’ is filled with clips from the sit-com, and the music incorporates samples of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in conversation in the wild, wacky way. This series was cult classic, particularly among gay audiences, so it makes a lot of sense that the Pet Shop Boys, long gay icons themselves, would do this kind of tribute.
The name of the game here is computer generated graphics - this video, produced in 1995, took advantage of a new generation of technology that permitted incorporation of live subjects with wild motion graphic video, doubling, etc. All seven videos here involve massive programming, a sort of video component of the heavy electronic feel of most of the Pet Shop Boys music, perhaps most heavy on the album underpinning this collection, ‘Very’.
This is a must for any fan of the Pet Shop Boys. A few of the videos here appear on their later greatest hits collection, Pop-Art, but this is the only collection that has some of these songs in video form, and they are not to be missed.
Customer Review: Pretty darn cool
Looks good, sounds great. Not exactly a ton of videos, but enough to make you see that they put alot of work into making these. The videos are all computer generated, with the boys mixed in odd and fun places. I first saw this video in a clothing store, where they usually play videos among all the “popular” clothing items. When I finally got it, I was right: “Liberation” is by far the best one on this tape. Pet Shop Boys have a futuristic feel to their music, and these computerized videos give their music a vision. The video is like icing on the cake; this is a must for hard-core fans. Buy from here…
The Meanest Thing To Say: A Little Bill Book for Beginning Readers, Level 3 (Oprah’s Book Club)
February 22, 2008
Customer Review: Cosby tells “stories about situations children often face.”
The Meanest Thing To Say is not about saying mean things back to mean people. And it isn’t even about mean people. What it IS about is children learning self-control, level-headedness and heart. When the new kid, Michael, calls Little Bill names, and says he has to think of the meanest things to say back the next day, Bill is frustrated and anxious. This comes up at home and his dad tells him to just say, “So?” to everything. Little Bill does this and it halts Michael. It takes two people to fight. But the moral of the story doesn’t stop here. Bill observes Michael is a new student and maybe just needs a friend. So he invites him to play basketball with him and they become friends.
Unfortunately it is reality that children can be very mean and hurtful. As parents, we need to teach our children how to handle bullies and it’s equally as important to teach them not to BE a bully. Also, just ignoring mean actions and words doesn’t always work. Everyone has good in them and we all, ages 2-102 need to offer kindness instead of anger. Great job, Cosby! Thank you and please keep writing. Peace & Soar!o8E

Cinco De Mowo!
February 22, 2008
On the fifth album of his career, appropriately titled Cinco De MOWO!, Mocean Worker, (pronounced Motion Worker) has concocted the quintessential feel-good summer album of 2007. The opening number, quite simply, says it best: “Shake Ya Boogie.” In what has become the incomparable Mocean Worker sound, Dorn mixes and matches the best of modern beat-making with live musicians like trumpeters Herb Alpert (”Changes”) and Steven Bernstein (”Shake Your Boogie”), bassist Marcus Miller (”Brown Liquor”), alto saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum (”Les & Eddie” and “Son of Sanford”) and vocalists Morley (”I Got You”) and Alana Da Fonseca (”Que Bom”). As on all Mocean Worker records, the legendary jazz icon Rahsaan Roland Kirk joins the party from the great beyond addind wicked flute (”Sis Boom Bah” & “Reykjavik”).
Cinco De MOWO! is the follow up to Mocean Worker’s 2005 release Enter The MOWO!, which went on to become his biggest album to date. It’s where the true vision for the definitive Mocean Worker sound came into focus. While liberally embracing his jazz and funk influences, Mocean Worker crafted songs with undeniable hooks. On Cinco De MOWO!, that vision has evolved even further. More than just funky grooves, tunes like “Shake Ya Boogie,” “Tickle It” and “Son of Sanford” find their way deep into the sub-conscious with melodies that reverberate long after the record has ended.
Customer Review: wow mowo wow
What a solid album! I so rarely like a disc from beginning to end. This is one of the exceptions. Fun, hip, swingin’. Buy it!
Customer Review: Excellent, but doesn’t realize its full potential
This is one of my favorite albums of 2007 and it is easy to recommend it to anyone who likes it when DJs build their music out of jazz samples. However, this album frustrates me. Overall, it has a good sense of balance, (if you ignore the final track) but most of the tracks fail to achieve greatness because they’re lopsided by one problem or another, and the annoying thing is that all of these problems have been overcome somewhere else on the album! I repeat that I highly recommend it, but this review is primarily negative because in Cinco de Mowo I hear one of my all-time favorite albums trying to break free, and it never does. The first track, “Shake ya Boogie,” mixes campy swing samples with a rock beat, creating very nice results. The next few tracks continue at that energy level and show off Mocean Worker’s sharp production sensibilities, but as they go on, I find myself hungry for more melodic diversity. The music features samples from countless jazz legends, but their talent doesn’t get a chance to shine when reduced to 4-note snippets. By the time you reach track five, “Reykjavik,” which sounds cool but goes absolutely nowhere, you get the feeling that the songs could have been condensed to a length of about 16 seconds and you wouldn’t have missed anything. However, right as you’re thinking this the album changes the formula with the aptly titled track, “Changes,” and gives the musicians more space for melodies. Unfortunately, the mixing feels much more conservative on these tracks than on the earlier ones. The awesome chopped-up flute solo in “Siss Boom Bah” is left to carry itself over minimal backing beats. The next track, “Brown Liquor,” is the only one on the album that finds a balance between interesting loops and solid melodic sections. It seems like Mocean Worker took his favorite loops and instrumentals and built separate tracks out of each one. He does a good job of organizing the album to keep it interesting, but in the end there aren’t many stand-out tracks because they are all a little repetitive or a little bland. The last tracks all provide enough variety to keep things interesting but they won’t surprise you. That is, until you reach the final one, “Songnumber3,” a slow and moody piece featuring strings, subtly-glitched piano, and a completely out-of-place drum loop. The rest of the album was surprisingly cohesive considering that each track was stylistically unique, but “Songnumber3″ completely fails. I’m sure the intent was to include a downtempo chill-out tune to cap things off, but it doesn’t fit with the album at all. The instruments, the minor key, the dragging pace, and the idiotic superimposed drum loop all contribute to a disappointing and inappropriate finish for a very good album. Buy from here…

Customer Review: Pure Pop Culture..Cashing In On “Disco” Revival Of The 90s
This is more or less just another danceable pop hits of the mid - late 70s collection (with a few early 80s thrown in). Folks, lets be honest here…only maybe 2 or 3 tunes actually got heavy play in the actual clubs back when (which is the reason I even give this 2 stars). All these tunes are the same tunes for the most part that are on every other so called “disco” CD compilation. For one, “Grease” is FAR from anything disco or disco related (which im happy to see a few people actually noticed!).
Where’s Cerrone “Supernature”, Giorgio “From Here To Eternity”, Alec R. Costandinos “Romeo & Juliet”, Machine “There But For The Grace Of God Go I”, Jumbo “Turn On To Love” and could go on and on (probably 90% of the folks reading this right now dont even know what those tunes I mentioned are).
Those tunes I mentioned are basic common club play disco from back when…im not even goin mega deep here, just mentioning a few of the REAL disco bilboard hit basics here. Sure, to promote the pop hits, most of these tunes on this comp were played in the corse of the night in 12″ remixed format…but they were not the main attraction as pop culture believes!
If anyone is truely interested to hear what disco was really about and wants to get a small taste of the hard true disco sounds, if you can find it (since its out of print), look up the CD comps The Best Disco In Town vol 3 (whole CD) and The Best Disco In Town vol.2 (75% of this CD is true disco) put out by the now gone Hot Productions…there you’ll get a small taste of the REAL disco hits from the 1976 - 1980 era which kept everyone dancin and havin fun (with a few early 80s ones thrown in). Forget this pop culture cash in on what the radio mainstream called disco (and if this is what disco really was, I wouldnt blame em one bit for the whole disco sucks movement…but this IS NOT REAL DISCO!).
Like I said, I DO give em credit for putting a few tracks on here that actually were REAL club hits and not on every pop comp (Gibson Brothers “Cuba” is the main one that stands out). But don’t take my word for it, seek out the 2 comps I mentioned above and hear for yourself! Buy from here…

Slaughterhouse-Five

Unstuck in time, Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut’s shattered survivor of the Dresden bombing, relives his life over and over again under the gaze of aliens; he comes at last to some understanding of the human comedy. The basis of George Roy’s great 1972 film and
Customer Review: Story of a pilgrimage
SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE is an excellent anti-war story. Kurt Vonnegut uses excellent symbolism. Billy Pilgrim, the principal character, is affected in his ongoing life on earth, or pilgrimage, by the horror of the bombing of Dresden, Germany. The memories are hounding and pursuing him throughout the rest of his life. Vonnegut should be commended for doing an excellent job in showing how one traumatic experience can naver be erased from a person’s mind. It countinues to literally persecute someone. Vonnegut is one author who should have received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Customer Review: Describing Vonnegut is impossible. Much like his message on war. Peet-o-weet.
Vonnegut truly is a gifted man. Every word in this book is carefully placed and fitted perfectly. Some of the lines in this book will forever be remembered. Billy Pilgrim is someone I came to know and love. Billy Pilgrim has become unhinged in time. Peet-o-weet. So it goes. Hello. Goodbye. Hello. Goodbye.
Billy Pilgrims adventures.. from WW2 to the the alien planet of the Tras.. is carefully placed in different sequences to make you unable to put this book down. I finished this book in one day. I couldn’t believe how well it flowed.
The message is clear as well. Nothing can be said of war. War is something that doesn’t make sense. Peet-o-weet. Buy from here…
Boynton Beach Club
February 20, 2008
Recently widowed Marilyn (Brenda Vaccaro), still reeling over the sudden death of her husband, finds an unexpected new circle of friends when she accepts an invitation to join The Boynton Beach Bereavement Club. While not ready to embark on a relationship herself, she is amused to realize that many of her contemporaries are actively looking for love. Lois (Dyan Cannon) is being courted by a younger man (Michael Nouri), while Harry (Joseph Bologna) tries internet dating and encourages his friend Jack (Len Cariou) to pursue a romance with the mysterious Sandy (Sally Kellerman). The Boynton Beach Club proves that 60 IS the new 40 and you’re never too old to fall in love.
Customer Review: I give this love letter of a movie five, count ‘em, five stars.
I don’t give 5 stars to many movies, but it was so nice to see a lot of actors who were “Hot Stuff” in the 70’s, in a movie about life at the age these actors actually are, plus. A little trivia-Did you know for a while the only reason Dyan Cannon was known was she married Cary Grant, (who?), one of the best looking actors of his era, and had his baby, Brenda Vacarro and Barbara Streisand went to High School together. Not as good as “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom”, but very well done and Brenda, Sally and Dyan show that they still have “It”, but, it’s just lower than it used to be. Enjoy!

Guero
February 20, 2008
Three years after the critically acclaimed and heartwrenching opus “Sea Change,” THREE-TIME GRAMMY WINNER and FIVE-TIME MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARD WINNER BECK returns with his most diverse, accomplished and compelling work to date: “GUERO.”
With the raucous first single “E-Pro” triumphantly “na-na-na”-ing Beck’s return with a must-be-seen-to-be believed video by Shynola (Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead), “GUERO” both reunites Beck with classic co-conspirators the Dust Brothers and explores territories uncharted by even this most innovative artist of his generation.
